Planning Aruba for first-timers is easier than most Caribbean trips — the island is safe, compact, and runs on US dollars. Still, a handful of things surprise almost everyone. Here they are, before they surprise you.
The things nobody tells first-timers
- The wind is constant — it is why 88°F feels wonderful, and why you will lose one hat.
- Tap water is excellent; skip bottled water entirely.
- US dollars work everywhere — no currency exchange needed.
- The island is small: nothing is more than 45 minutes away.
- Complete the online ED card before you fly — it is required for entry.
Your first-trip formula

When to come and what to book first
Check the month guide — May, June, and fall bring the same weather for less money. Book your room and your boat day first; both sell out earliest in high season.
