Your first trip to Aruba should feel easy β and it can be, because this is one of the easiest islands in the Caribbean to get right. Here’s everything a first-timer needs, in the order you’ll need it.
Before You Go
Book flights into Queen Beatrix International (AUA) β MayβAugust is the value sweet spot. No visa needed for most visitors, US dollars work everywhere, and the tap water is excellent. Pack reef-safe sunscreen; the trade winds hide how strong the sun is.
Where to Base Yourself
First-timers should choose between two areas: Palm Beach (high-rise resorts, restaurants and nightlife in walking distance β easiest possible trip) or Eagle Beach (quieter, arguably prettier, more romantic). Our full breakdown: Where to Stay in Aruba.
The First-Timer Checklist
β Sunset at Eagle Beach by the fofoti trees. β A morning snorkel over the Antilla shipwreck. β One day in Arikok National Park by UTV or jeep. β Fresh fried fish on the dock at Zeerovers. β The California Lighthouse at golden hour. β A sunset catamaran sail with open bar. That’s the greatest-hits reel β details for each in Things to Do in Aruba.
Rookie Mistakes to Skip
Don’t taxi everywhere (pre-book an airport transfer, then walk or bus the hotel strip). Don’t eat every meal on the tourist strip (the best food is the cheapest β see our restaurant guide). Don’t skip the 3-hour airport arrival on departure day β US preclearance takes time. And don’t leave valuables visible in a rental car at remote beaches.
