Late morning when the wind fills in

Hadicurari sits just north of the Palm Beach high-rises, where the fishermen’s huts and the De Palm pier are. It is the island’s windsurfing and kitesurfing beach: the trade wind blows steadily across flat, shallow water, which is exactly what those sports need and also what makes the beach fun to watch from a bar stool.

Swimming and water conditions

The water is shallow and calm; the wind, not the waves, is the feature. Swim close to shore and away from the launch areas where kites and boards come and go.

Water sports

Several schools operate from the huts, offering windsurf and kitesurf lessons and rentals, plus paddleboards on calmer mornings. It is the one beach where a first lesson makes sense. See Aruba water sports.

Facilities, shade and parking

The pier has a bar and restaurant, and the water-sports centres have showers and restrooms for customers. Parking is free next to the huts. Shade is limited; the beach bar is the shade.

Where to eat nearby

The pier bar for a cold drink with the kites overhead; the Palm Beach strip is a ten-minute walk south.

Learning to windsurf or kitesurf here

Hadicurari is one of the best places in the Caribbean to learn, because the water stays shallow and flat while the trade wind blows steadily most of the year. Beginners can stand up in the water between attempts. Book a lesson with one of the schools on the beach; most rent equipment by the hour for experienced riders too.

Best time to go

  • Wind: strongest from late morning through the afternoon, and through the windier months of the year.
  • Calmer swimming: early morning, before the kites go up.
  • Sunset: grab a seat at the pier bar to watch the last riders come in.

Nearby

The Palm Beach strip, with restaurants and bars, starts right next door. For snorkeling, head north to Arashi Beach or Boca Catalina; for calm swimming, see Palm Beach.

Yes. Locals often call it Fisherman’s Huts after the small huts on the sand.
