What makes this cove special
The water is shallow, glassy, and full of sergeant majors, parrotfish, and the occasional turtle. Because the cove is small, fish concentrate rather than scatter. Entry is simple from the sand, though water shoes help on the rocky edges.
Know before you go
- Palapas are few — arrive early or bring an umbrella.
- No facilities: pack water, snacks, and everything else.
- Catamaran groups anchor offshore mid-morning; go before 10 a.m. for the cove to yourself.

Boca Catalina is the best shore-snorkelling spot on the island that you can drive to: a small rocky cove on the Malmok coast where you walk in and are over fish within a few metres. The catamarans stop here too, which tells you the water is good and also when to avoid it.
Snorkelling and water conditions
Enter from the sand patch or the rock steps and swim out over the reef; the water is two to six metres deep and calm. Expect blue tangs, parrotfish, sergeant majors and, with luck, a turtle. Bring reef-safe sunscreen.
Facilities, shade and parking
None. There are a couple of palapas that go early and nothing else, which is part of the charm. Park along the road, bring water, and use the restrooms at Arashi five minutes away.
