Aruba and Curaçao sit just 70 miles apart in the southern Caribbean, share Dutch heritage and year-round sunshine, and are both outside the hurricane belt. But they deliver very different vacations — and picking the right one for your travel style matters more than any ranking. Here’s the honest local comparison.

Choose Aruba If You Want Beaches First
This is Aruba’s trump card. Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are wide, white, calm and swimmable in a way Curaçao simply can’t match — Curaçao’s beaches are smaller coves, often rocky-entry, and many charge admission. If your dream vacation is walking out of your hotel onto powder sand and floating in flat turquoise water, Aruba wins without a debate. Aruba also has the deeper bench of resorts, restaurants within walking distance, and tours running like clockwork.
Choose Curaçao If You Want Diving and City Character
Curaçao counters with better shore diving and snorkeling reefs, a bigger and more atmospheric capital (Willemstad’s UNESCO-listed waterfront), and generally lower prices. It feels less polished and more lived-in — which some travelers love and beach-resort loyalists don’t.
The Practical Differences
Flights: Aruba has far more nonstops from the US, and US preclearance means you land back home as a domestic passenger. Getting around: you can do Aruba without a car if you stay in the hotel zones; Curaçao really requires one. Cost: Curaçao runs cheaper on hotels and food; Aruba costs more but delivers more infrastructure for it. Vibe: Aruba is resort-comfortable and social; Curaçao is explorative and local.
Our Take
First Caribbean trip, honeymoon, family with kids, or a beach-first vacation: Aruba. Certified divers, budget travelers, and repeat Caribbean visitors chasing something less manicured: Curaçao. And if you can spare ten days — the islands are a 25-minute flight apart, so you genuinely can do both.
