Renting a car is the easiest way to see Aruba, and it is often cheaper than taking taxis everywhere. But what does it actually cost? Below are real daily rates from our partner Triple D Car Rental, a local company with an office in Oranjestad and airport pick-up, plus the extra costs to budget for.

What a typical week costs
Most couples and small families are happy with an economy or compact car. A week in a Kia Picanto comes to $350, or $469 in a Hyundai Accent. With Triple D you pay just the 13% reservation fee online ($45.50 for the Picanto week) and the rest when you pick up the car.
Want to go off-road to the Natural Pool? The Jeep Gladiator at $285 a day is built for it, but for one rough day many visitors save money by renting a regular car for the week and booking a private jeep tour for the Natural Pool day.
Extra costs to budget for
- Insurance: ask what is included and what extra cover costs. Check if your credit card covers rental cars abroad before you buy extra.
- Deposit: rental companies usually hold a deposit on a credit card at pick-up. Ask the amount when you book.
- Gas: Aruba is small, so a full tank goes a long way. Most stations are full service.
- Parking: free at almost all beaches and sights; some spots in downtown Oranjestad are paid.
- Extra drivers, child seats: ask when you reserve.
Is renting a car in Aruba worth it?
For most visitors, yes, at least for part of the trip. Taxis in Aruba charge fixed fares that add up fast, and buses do not reach the north coast, the rock formations or the quieter beaches. With a car you can follow our one-day road trip loop and beach-hop on your own schedule.
If you are staying on Palm Beach and mostly plan to relax, you might only need a car for 3 days. See Aruba without a car to decide.
Airport or hotel pick-up?
Triple D offers pick-up at Queen Beatrix Airport (AUA) or at their office in Oranjestad. Picking up at the airport saves a taxi ride to your hotel. Read our airport car rental guide for tips.
Tips to pay less
- Book early for December to April and holidays, when cars sell out.
- Choose the smallest car you need: roads are short and parking is easier.
- Skip the 4×4 for the whole week unless you plan several off-road days.
- Return it full to avoid refuelling charges.
