Beyond the beaches, Aruba packs an incredible amount into 70 square miles: a rugged desert national park, one of the Caribbean’s best shipwreck snorkels, wild natural pools, and famously friendly flamingos. Here are the things to do in Aruba that are actually worth your vacation time.
1. Explore Arikok National Park by UTV or Jeep

Nearly 20% of Aruba is protected inside Arikok National Park β a dramatic desert landscape of cacti, wind-carved limestone cliffs, hidden caves with ancient Arawak pictographs, and a wild, wave-battered coastline completely unlike the calm western beaches. The park’s rough roads are best tackled by UTV, jeep, or guided safari tour.
Don’t miss: Fontein Cave, Quadirikiri Cave, the Bushiribana gold mill ruins, and the dramatic coastline at Boca Prins.
2. Swim in the Natural Pool (Conchi)
Hidden on the rugged north coast inside Arikok, the Natural Pool β locals call it Conchi β is a rock-ringed swimming hole where you can float in calm water while ocean waves crash over the volcanic stone barrier. It’s reachable only by 4×4, horseback, or a demanding hike, which keeps it special.
3. Snorkel the Antilla Shipwreck

The 400-foot German freighter Antilla, scuttled in 1940, rests in shallow water off Malmok β parts of it nearly break the surface, making it one of the few major wrecks in the Caribbean you can experience with just a snorkel. Most catamaran cruises combine the Antilla with reef stops at Boca Catalina and an open bar on the sail home.
4. Meet the Flamingos on Renaissance Island

The famous Aruba flamingo photos are taken on Renaissance Island, a private island reserved for guests of the Renaissance Wind Creek Resort. Not staying there? A limited number of day passes are released daily and sell out fast β the reliable backup is booking a stay, even one night, at the Renaissance itself.
5. Catch Sunset at the California Lighthouse

Perched above Arashi Beach on the island’s northern tip, the century-old California Lighthouse offers the best panoramic view in Aruba. Come 45 minutes before sunset, climb the spiral stairs, and watch the entire west coast light up gold.
